Morris County, NJ Has A Lot to Offer this Fall Season
Pumpkin carving, hayrides, corn mazes, apple picking…the possibilities of things to do this fall (or any fall, for that matter) are virtually endless for families that reside in Morris County, New Jersey. Because of its stunning, rural location – in addition to its more urbanized areas, like Parsippany – Morris County is the perfect place to spend during the crisp autumn season, with activities that every age can enjoy and partake in.
1. Learn how apple cider is made.
Drinking a spiced, sweet cup of apple cider – whether you like it hot and steamy or refreshingly chilled – is a true testament of fall. But don’t sell yourself short and purchase a seasonal jug this time of year at the local supermarket; Instead, make a trip to Alstede Farms’ cider mill. Visitors are able to hop on a hayride at the Chester, NJ farm, and see first hand just how the apples are pressed and bottled into delicious cider. A bonus? You get to indulge in delicious free samples!
2. Pick your own pumpkins.
Conklin Farms in Montville is easily accessible from many Morris County townships, located on River Road off of route 287. With no entry free and an open availability of seven days a week, Conklin Farms is a great place to take the family – especially to their giant pumpkin patch, which offers thousands of pumpkins in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Pickers get a killer view of the farm’s sunflower display, and can enjoy a pit stop at the barn store for Indian corn, scarecrows and other fall-related finds on their way out.
3. Show off your costumes at a Halloween event.
It’s no surprise that Imagine That! – a children’s museum in Florham Park – is hosting a fun-filled and totally festive Halloween event for children and their parents on October 28th. During the hours of 5 to 8 P.M., the museum will be opened to excited Halloween lovers, who are encouraged to dress up in their costumes, craft, play games, win prizes and indulge in pizza. A special prize will be awarded to the lucky winner of the Halloween Spooktacular’s costume contest, so make sure you dress to impress! And even if you don’t get a prize, all children are given a goody bag (filled with more treats than tricks!) at the end of the night.
4. Adventure through a corn maze.
With its seasonal opening to the public in late September, Middle Valley Farms in Mendham provides nothing but the best fall activities for the families of Morris County. In addition to the hayrides and pumpkin patch, Middle Valley Farms offers an amazing six-acre corn maze. Although it can be completed during the day, the maze is also open to the public at night – for those thrill seekers daring enough to embark on such a spooky adventure. If anyone’s birthday is in the fall, the farm also offers birthday packages, too!
5. Search for apples in a beautiful orchard.
For some families, it just wouldn’t be autumn without apple picking. While there are a lot of stunning Morris County locations to choose from, Hillview Farms of Gillette offers an orchard with views nothing short of impressive, and a variety of red, green and newly blended apples to choose from. The farm is open daily from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M., but apple picking in particular only lasts through the end of October – so be sure to head over before it’s too late.
